Eyebrows seem to be a bit of a dichotomy – when they are especially beautiful or when they’re horrid, they’re all you notice on a girl’s (or a guy’s!) face. Anything less than gorgeous, and the gaze wanders towards the eyes, the lips, the nose, etc. So you go to the brow bar, and get them plucked, threaded or waxed and they’re lovely! But what do you do the next morning? To maintain your ‘brow quality’ take a look at some some types of brows that you may want, and we will help you choose the right products to give you those Vogue-worthy brows.
Defining:
The best way to go for seriously defined brows (think Megan Fox, Cher Lloyd) are pigmented eye brow pencils – this look is more suited for those with medium to darker eyebrows. An eyebrow pencil, like the Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows, will give you the precise tip to make a clear and distinct shape, as well as get into the small spaces in between the hairs. If you like your brows like this remember to get a long-lasting pencil because a single smudge and your look is gone!
Filling:
If you feel that your brows are a pretty good shape and that all you need is to fill in those tiny gaps between little hairs, brow powders are the way forward. With an angled brush, you can get in those gaps, but still have the softness of a powder to keep that natural look. A great option is HD Brow Palette which gives you 4 shades – enough to mix up a shade that will suit your brows, as well as the lighter shades to softly define the edges if needs be. This will help maintain that natural look!
A Soft Touch:
If you’re somewhere in between and need that extra bit of manipulating but still want to keep it looking a bit natural, a great option would be a mix of the two above, a less pigmented and waxy pencil (like the Benefit Instant Brow Pencil) or a palette that has both powder and wax (like the E.L.F Studio Brow Kit). Once you’ve filled in the inner parts of your brows with a powder, you can define or elongate the tail of your eyebrows, or even the arched areas with the wax or the pencil. If you do opt for this method, remember to invest in a spoolie so you can blend the area where the powder and wax/pencil meet so as to have a nice transition between the two media.
In fact, a spoolie is great to have for anyone. They are nice to have especially if you have lots of hairs on your brows, or if you’ve had such a good lie-in that you slept on your brows and they now look like they have a mind of their own.
Another product that’s good to have is a clear mascara. A clear mascara will help set your eyebrows in place without adding any colour – again, especially good for those with unruly hairs! A lot of people opt for cheaper options like the MUA Mascara in Shade 1, which make it even more of a reason to have one handy!
Colour Perfect:
The last product may not be for all, and this is the eyebrow mascara. Very popular in the likes of Japan where many people lighten their hair colour, eyebrow mascara is exactly what the name implies – a mascara for your eyebrows. This is a less permanent option to tinting your brows and is a perfect option for people who have dyed their hair darker or lighter by a few shades. It’d be such a waste if you crafted yourself lovely blonde brows if you have black hairs sticking out!
Brows, when groomed and styled, are stunning and eye-catching. The likes of Keira Knightly, Natalie Portman and Emma Watson have, on multiple occasions, made the world go, “phwoarrr” with the power of their eyebrows. With these tips and tricks, a whole world may be a bit much, but it’s not a dream to be looking at your reflection and going, “phwoarrr“!
